We improve childhood literacy by providing

volunteers to give one-to-one reading practice to children in UK primary schools. Help us by getting involved, donating or volunteering

The Schoolreaders idea

We believe that good childhood literacy transforms lives, yet it is a fact that many children leave our primary schools unable to read properly.  Despite the best efforts of their teachers these children often fail in their secondary education and are unable to make the most of life's opportunities.

One simple but effective approach to this problem is the provision of more one-to-one reading practice.

Schoolreaders recruits volunteers from local communities and matches them to appropriate primary schools  to listen to children read.  The service is free to both schools and volunteers.

With our help children are improving their reading,  and thereby also gaining the skills and confidence to make the most of life.

We're calling on keen book clubbers to take part in our 2018 quiz challenge.
