NB, deadline extended to Friday 28th August 2020!

Thanks for joining us!

Did you know that in 2019 one in four children aged 11 failed

to reach the government’s required reading standards? A child who

can't read properly at this age may struggle at secondary school and can face many obstacles in adult life. Schoolreaders is a charity that improves childhood literacy by providing volunteers to give one-to-one reading practice to children in primary schools across the country.  Take part in our quiz, have fun, learn something about our vital work and, please, support us if you can!

At this strange time, reading is even more of a solace, an education and a way into the world. I'm so glad that the Schoolreaders

Book Club Quiz will still be running, virtually.  We are all adjusting

to new ways of communication and we can still connect and have

fun with our shared love of books. Good luck!'

How does the quiz work?

The quiz is open to individuals and to groups such as Book Clubs wishing to enter as a team.  UK Government guidelines on social distancing mean that groups cannot meet face to face at present, but there are plenty of simple options for setting up a virtual meeting.  See 'The quiz and coronavirus' paragraph below for information.

To register for the quiz, simply click on the button at the bottom of this page, fill out our form and we'll send you (via email) all the information you'll need to take part.  Have a go at the quiz - you can do it just for fun or, if you want a chance to win one of our prizes, you can send us your answers.  Answer sheets must arrive with us by midnight on 31st August 2020 if you would like to be eligible for a prize.  First prize will be a case of Prosecco (to be shared if you have entered as a team), as well as signed books.  Everyone submitting an entry, regardless of their score, will be entered into a draw for further prizes and our wonderful reading volunteers will be entered into a prize draw of their own.

If you have already registered to take part in the quiz one of our team will be in touch soon to see how we can help you run a virtual group meeting.   If you have any questions, please email quiz@schoolreaders.org

Finally, if you feel able to, please support our work

Sophie Kinsella joins forces with Schoolreaders

We're delighted that best-selling author Sophie Kinsella has agreed to be the face of our quiz.  Sophie first hit the UK bestseller lists in September 2000 with 'The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic'.  She has since sold over 40 million copies of her books in more than 60 countries.  Sophie has come up with some questions for our quiz so you can test your wits against one of the best writers around!

The quiz and coronavirus

Current circumstances mean that our usual quiz format, where teams get together over a glass of wine or a cup of tea, is not practical this year and we urge you to follow UK Government guidelines on social distancing, which can be found here.  But we know you will still want to celebrate the joys of reading with friends, and we are therefore encouraging groups to take part in 'virtual' meetings.  We can use simple technology to get people together for a chat while allowing everyone to stay in the safety of their own homes.  Tech-phobes need not worry; it's easier than it sounds - please click here to explore the options, and to get help and advice.

Already registered for the quiz?

Fun at previous Schoolreaders Book Club Quiz events!

Sadly, groups taking part in this year's quiz won't be able to meet in person. Please follow the UK Government's advice on social-distancing, which can be found here.  But click here to find out how you can get your friends together for a virtual meeting instead.
