Be a Superstar
What is 'Be a Superstar for Schoolreaders'?
Activities for your school's Superstar campaign:
We want your pupils (and maybe even your teachers) to pay £1 to come into school on your chosen event day dressed as their favourite ‘Superstar’. This could be a character from a book or film, a sportsperson or singer, or even the family dog - we don't mind as long as it's someone that inspires them! Please take lots of pictures and let us know what you get up to.
Could children in your school take part in our Readathon? Children will be encouraged to ask friends and family for sponsorship - pledges can be made for whole books read or for minutes spent reading, or for a total amount. We'll provide reading record sheets and sponsorship forms. Participation for the school is optional - if the children feel like joining in, but don't want to raise funds, that's fine too - we just want them to enjoy reading. All participating children will be entered into a prize draw. Once your event is over, please send completed sponsorship forms to us at Schoolreaders, Bedford Heights, Brickhill Drive, Bedford, MK41 7PH. See below for instructions on how to pay in funds raised.
Why not get your children to write, in fewer than 500 words, a story or poem about their Superstar? They could even choose to make a Superstar picture book. Once your school has registered we'll provide a form that explains all you and children at your school will need to know about entering. There will be two age-group winners - EYFS/KS1 and KS2, and we'll be asking you to send in your two best entries in each category. All participants will be entered into a draw with prizes like signed books and reading goodies.
Your own fundraising ideas
Perhaps you have an active PTA who might like to get involved with raising funds for Schoolreaders?
Or maybe children could organise a 'Guess the Superstar' competition, paying £1 to guess who their teachers are dressed up as. Perhaps you could hold a second-hand book sale or a sponsored silence. There are lots of fun ways to raise money and every penny your school raises is gratefully received. Let us know what you're planning and we can help with advice and sponsorship forms etc.
Prizes for schools and pupils
Every school that takes part in ‘Be a Superstar for Schoolreaders’ will be entered into a draw to win one of two amazing prizes:
EITHER a visit from a well-known children’s author.
OR a year’s membership of the innovative maths programme, ‘Times Tables Rock Stars’.
Please see our Terms and Conditions.
All children participating will receive a 'Superstar' sticker. All children who take part in the Readathon or writing competition will be entitled to receive a Certificate - this will be printed off by your school from our downloadable resources. Children from whom we receive Readathon sponsorship forms or story competition entries (forwarded to us by your school at the end of your 'Superstar' event) will be entered in a draw for prizes including signed books (writing competition) and Schoolreaders goodies (writing competition and Readathon). There will be individual prizes for the two best submissions in the story competition.

Resources for running your 'Superstar' event
We're inviting schools to join us in our 'Superstar' fundraising campaign. Any school benefiting from the presence of Schoolreaders volunteers in their classrooms and libraries will understand the vital need for our service. We are able to provide one-to-one reading sessions at no cost to our partner schools, but we do need to fundraise to run the Schoolreaders scheme - and we hope you and your pupils will help us do this.
The 'Superstar' campaign is launching on 4th September 2019 and your school can hold a 'Superstar' event on any day between then and 21st February 2020.
