The National Year of Reading 2026 (5).png

The National Year of Reading 2026 is a vital campaign to tackle the steep decline in children’s reading.
Schoolreaders is proud to be playing a leading role.

The National Year of Reading 2026 comes at a pivotal moment.

Across the country, too many children are falling behind in their reading. One in four pupils leave primary school unable to read at the expected standard. For these children, the consequences can be lifelong.

At Schoolreaders, we believe every child deserves to learn to read well. That’s why, for over a decade, we have been providing children in primary schools across the country with free, weekly, one-to-one reading support through our network of dedicated volunteers.

We have pledged to deliver 1.5 million individual reading sessions to children in primary schools nationwide, focusing on the most disadvantaged.

This is an ambitious goal, and we will need additional support to achieve it.

It costs just £40 to provide one child with an entire year of

one-to-one reading support.

If you can give just an hour a week, you can help to change a child's life story.

Our service is free to schools, so we can reach the children who need us the most.
