Our Impact

We believe it is important to ensure that the impact of our service on improving children's reading skills is measurable. That is why we conduct annual literacy research in partnership with the Institute for Research in Education. The results show significant improvements in children's reading age, their reading enjoyment levels and more. Click here to read more in our latest Annual Report.

Targeted support - reaching the most disadvantaged children

Screenshot 2026-04-28 115219.png
“We could not have envisaged the positive impact Schoolreaders would have had on our pupils. Our lowest 20% of pupils have developed a love of reading. The volunteers genuinely care and are passionate about ensuring children enjoy reading/being read to.”

Greenbank Primary School, Merseyside

Our strategy of reaching the most disadvantaged children continues - 43% of children supported were on pupil premium versus the national figure of 26%

Of the 2,195 new volunteers matched to schools this year, 54% were placed in the most deprived areas

“We love our reading volunteers at school and are so very grateful for the difference they make to our most vulnerable children. The relationships they build are key to progress and confidence in reading that we see.”

St Dennis Primary Academy, Cornwall
