On Monday 8th December, All Saints’ Church, Hertford was filled with festive spirit for a truly special Christmas Carol Concert in support of Schoolreaders.
The evening was a beautiful celebration, with stunning choral music creating the perfect Christmas atmosphere. We were honoured to welcome the Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, who gave a moving and personal reflection on the vital importance of literacy and the lasting impact it can have on children’s lives.
One of the most touching moments of the evening came from Shaniah, a wonderful 8-year-old Hertfordshire schoolgirl, who spoke about her Schoolreader and delivered a heartfelt reading. Her words were a powerful reminder of why this work matters so much and the difference that dedicated volunteers make to children's reading, and their confidence, every day.

Alongside the concert, the online silent auction featured more than 45 generous lots, including holiday homes, sporting opportunities, garden and cultural experiences, and a range of unique treats. We are thrilled to share that the event has raised nearly £55,000 - enough to provide more than 1,300 children with an entire year of one-to-one reading sessions.
A huge and heartfelt thank you to Belinda and Michelle, whose dedication, organisation, and passion made both the concert and the auction such a success. We are also deeply grateful to everyone who attended, performed, donated, bid, and supported this event in any way.
Together, you have helped ensure that more children like Shaniah can build confidence, develop a love of reading, and unlock brighter futures through literacy.
Thank you once again for making this festive season truly meaningful.
