Schoolreaders at London Book Fair

On March 12th, Schoolreaders had the opportunity to attend the London Book Fair, one of the biggest events in the publishing calendar. We were delighted to be representing the National Year of Reading, alongside other lead partners including the National Literacy Trust, The Reading Agency, and Chapter One.
Being part of this shared space created a great opportunity to talk about the importance of reading support for children and to connect with organisations from across the publishing world.
Throughout the day we met with a wide range of publishers and industry representatives, sharing the work Schoolreaders does to support children’s literacy through our network of volunteer readers. It was encouraging to see how many people across the publishing sector are passionate about improving children’s access to books and reading opportunities.
It was particularly lovely to get the chance to catch up with author supporter A. F. Steadman, whose books have captured the imagination of so many young readers. She spoke with Bookseller Hannah Bull about her early love of reading, her writing process, and about how inspiration can find you at the strangest of moments.
Events like the London Book Fair remind us how many people across publishing share the same goal as Schoolreaders: helping more children discover the joy of reading. We’re looking forward to continuing the conversations we started on the day and exploring ways we can work together to support children who need a little extra help becoming confident readers.
